Showcase of Hypnotic Video "Paintings"
Marya Triandafellos, a cutting edge NY artist, ushers in an exciting new video art form entitled, "Sequences," on 24 monitors in famed downtown NYC lounge.
NEW YORK, N.Y. On June 26, 2003 between 8-10pm, NYC artist Marya Triandafellos will be filling over 24 monitors in the lower level of Remote Lounge with a 45-minute loop of her stunning video art (videoscapes) and still images. Visuals will be set to the original electronic music of John Blackford. All are invited to enjoy a hot summer night of art, music and cocktails. Cocktails sponsored by Boru Vodka.
Triandafellos constructs richly layered and strikingly colored "videoscapes" that oscillate on the border of perceptibility, and challenge reality as defined by our senses. These visual treats were born from a library of moving and still images created over several years, and are composed by extracting patterns and manipulating colors from video of daily activities and experiences, people, city images and environmental landscapes. The viewer is left sensing the multiple dimensions of our every day experiences.
"I use my technique to manipulate content for any subject matter to create exciting visuals for spaces, including corporate events, outdoor environments, publicity events, restaurants, club spaces and private parties, as well as for musicians and DJs. Working with video that I shoot, or video provided to me by my client, my work looks best on large plasma screens, or other large video displays," says Triandafellos.
Over the last 20 years, Triandafellos has been expressed her work through printmaking, photography, collage, performance art, Mail Art, large-scale digital art and video documentaries at various venues throughout the city. As the president of a branding and Web solutions company in New York, she integrates her knowledge of computer software and design into her artwork. Triandafellos has been inspired by a broad range of sources for her work such as nature, word play, the female form, pop and commercial culture, politics, social issues and dream imagery. A temporary Web site, www.00ART.com, will be launched by the time of the Remote Lounge show, and will be e-commerce ready for the purchase of her DVDs, VHS tapes and prints by July 2003.
